Ok, this just isn't news enough yet to post it on the frontpage, but I just got off the phone. Michiel de Vries had been working on Meridian a lot. An instrument editor for 2-operator FM, 4-operator FM and WAVE is already impelemented. It will be possible to use custom samples! Also, Michiel thinks it will not take extreme adjustments to allow MOD and S3M support.

The downside is that you'll need a 1024KB mapper in order to be able to work with Meridian. But who cares, THIS ROCKS!

It's about time some decent software uses my 4MB memory mapper!

It get's really old to use it just as RAMDISK or diskcache Tongue

But, does Meridian run from internal mapper on turboR and use extra segments from the external mapper? Or does it just run from the default mapper? (Which is the internal in turboR and the biggest available in all other machines)

Running purely from external mapper will decrease the performance on turboR (ofcourse still faster than Z80, but still)

Of course it will use internal and external mapper on turboR.

That rules Smile

It's not a big 'ofcourse', because GEM for instance doesn't ^^;

Meridian? Will it be finished? Ever? That project just keeps going and never seems to finish at all. And then, so much requirements?

Keep coding....

ah well, hmm huh, eh, since my humble 8245 still has 128k, how much does say 1 or 2 mb cost on a fair, nowadays?

Well, you do have a point here, I must admit. On the other hand. At his website you can download a pretty recent version of his program which is already very usuable.

Release early, release often. I think Michiel has it covered Smile

Seriously, how can anyone complain about a program that keeps evolving? Look at how MBWAVE has evolved since v0.96, a lot more was done besides bug fixing! New versions of commercial PC software is being released all the time, and often without any great new features (just more bloat and useless crap), so be glad the next Meridian will offer something useful!

Besides, it's an application. Unlike games, applications are almost never finished (although if you look by the amount of patches PC game companies release, you'd think PC games are never finished either).
