Gorby's Pipeline highscore

Maybe a stupid question, but does Gorby actually save the highscores shown in the beginning of the game...?
I'm running the game on my SX-1 using SofaRun, and I'm pretty sure that write enable is set, but the highscore isn't saved...
Tried it also on a PC with BlueMSX, and there it also doesn't save.
