Hey all,

I'd like to know if there's a way to independently pan psg/scc tracks while playing a KSS file using a dedicated player, emulator or a winamp/xmplay plugin ?
A.K.A : playing KSS in stereo the way NotSo FatSo does with psg/vcr6 NSF files ? (VCR6 = Konami SCC for NES, well sort of...)

Here's a example of NotSo FatSo playing a NSF of Akumajo Densetsu (VCR6+PSG) track in STEREO : http://msx.jwar.fr/misc/akumajoutestVCR6.mp3

See what i mean ?
J.

That’s certainly a neat sounding stereo effect Smile.

In case it's not totaly clear :

On this pic you can see "default " Pan values for several tracks.
You can hear this setup on the file posted in my first post.

Use MSX plug in Winamp (I use Winamp 2.92), this plugin allows to play PSG, SCC and MSXmusic KSS.

You can change panning of PSG, SCC(this is only all channels at the same time) and FM (panning on each channel).

MSX plugin for Winamp

Thanks for the answer, unfortunately MSX plug can only pan the whole PSG on a side and the Whole SCC on another side.
The result is quite disturbing, especialy while listening with a headphone.
I should have mentioned i am searching for panning solutions ONLY for PSG/SCC. Sorry for that.

@J-War: it's not 100% clear to me what you need exactly, but in openMSX you can pan individual channels of the different sound chips. Unfortunately, since this feature is rarely needed, you still have to manually edit the machine (or extension) description files for this. You can find an example in the PSG section of this machine description. Value -100 is completely left, 0 is in the middle, +100 is completely right, but in-between values are also possible.

If you only need simultaneous panning of all channels in a sound chip (but different panning for e.g. PSG and SCC) you can also use the balance settings (no need to edit config files).

Alternatively you can use the record_channels command to record individual channels of the different sound chips to separate wav files. And later post process them in your favorite sound editor.

Thanks for your answer wouter_

To make it clear : I'd like to pan EACH psg channels individualy and also EACH scc channels individualy.

Using your example :

Quote:

Value -100 is completely left, 0 is in the middle, +100 is completely right, but in-between values are also possible.

Let's say i'd like to play the Metal Gear 2 intro and setup pan like follow :

PSG 1 = 0 (Usualy drums)
PSG 2 = 33 (usualy used to " double " a SCC bass voice or add delay)
PSG 3 = -33 (Same use as above)

SCC 1 = 0 (usualy Bass)
SCC 2 = 33
SCC 3 = -33
SCC 4 = -50
SCC 5 = 50

Is it possible using OpenMSX ?

Nope, that's not what i need. I don't need sound chip panning but indivual tracks panning.

Way too long, i need to save time ! And actualy KSSv0.2c, MSX Plug and Hoot can already do that in a very convenient way.

I'd like to be able to set up PAN for every individual PSG and SCC track, then output the selected song to a .WAV or .AIF file. Do you see what i mean ?
