As a side note, is Y8950's ADPCM channel any necessary? Can ADPCM samples be converted into 16-bit PCM samples or even 8-bit PCM samples offline or during loading and played by OPL4 WAVE sub module?

Hello MSX world!

Im' Jun Soft from Korea.

I just subscribed here to answer some of your questions Smile

Currently the specification of DalSoRi v2 is not finalized.
However, I can say that:

1. YRW801M will be included as well as 4MB SRAM. You can select one of two configurations by software, "2MB ROM + 2MB RAM" or "4MB RAM". At default, v2 is perfectly compatible to v1.

2. 64KB (or more) flash memory and 8KB (or more) SRAM will be included for MSX-AUDIO BIOS v1.3

3. If added, ADPCM and PCM parts of Y8950 will be implemented. It must be register-level compatible.
But as noticed, it will increase the price very much, because I should use relatively expensive FPGA.
So I'd like to know is_ it_ really_ valuable_.

4. Without ADPCM, v2 will fit into Overrich (Konami-size) case. Or does not, otherwise.

The big problem at this moment is, in fact, that I have no experience of MSX-AUDIO Crying
So v2 will be a challenging project for me.

If you have any other questions or suggestions, let me know. I'll continuously follow up this thread.

Thanks,
Jun

If both configurations are possible, please make a hardware switch. Software switch makes more compatibility problems.

Without ADPCM this is of little use and only creates more cost. Moonsound has always been an I/O only device. Do not cause incompatibility please.

I'm very interested because 4096K of sampling is just what i need for my future projects and the ADPCM is just a plus will be nice if you get achieve the implementation of that too.

Good Luck with the project and Count with me.

Thanks for your opinions.

Firstly,

I like the hardware switch more than software, too! Yes, It's straightforward!
But you must change the switch according to new or old software. Maybe someone feel inconvenience for that.
I'll test if the compatibility problem will happen by running old programs.

At second,

I'll add a HARDWARE switch to shut down the memory for BIOS. The compatibility problem does not bother
anymore you. If you think the BIOS is useless without ADPCM, then possibly a 3rd model may be a candidate.

1. OPL4 + 2MB ROM + 4MB RAM + BIOS ROM/RAM + ADPCM (250USD)
2. OPL4 + 2MB ROM + 4MB RAM + BIOS ROM/RAM (150 USD)
3. OPL4 + 2MB ROM + 4MB RAM (120USD)

The price is just for a relative comparison purpose.

Lastly, although this is not directly related to this topic, I'd like to note that all MSX peripherals must have BIOS
for the compatibility. That's the MSX spirit as I know.
