Hello all,

I have a MegaRAM here, a grey cartridge, quite heavy with the text "MEGARAM 256 KBytes" on it. The label has some circuitry printed in the background. I don't know who made it...

Anyway, this MegaRAM works fine on my Philips NMS 8250, but when I use it on my turboR, the MegaRAM is not detected by ExecROM. Is that normal?

I have no problems with my MegaRAM on the my GT. It should work in any slot, although I use mine in slot 1. The is a program that will test for your megaRAM called memtest I think?

My MegaRAM has been upgraded to 4Mbit so I can use it to play MG2, pitpan has a MegaRAM, maybe he has tried it with a TurboR ?

In the 8250 the megaRAM is recognized by ExecROM but in the GT it isn't... Sad Other carts work fine in the GT.

Download TestRAM, see if it can find your MegaRAM. You can download it from this link

WHy would testram find it, while ExecROM can't? It's written by the same author... Sad

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Oh, I tried TestRAM, and it also didn't find the MegaRAM, as I expected.

Are you sure? I always thought MegaRAM could only have max of 2Mbit...

Anyway, it is a weird problem! I have an ACVS 512KB MegaRAM and I use it on my WSX. Sometimes it don't get detected... So I switch of, change slots and it works fine again. Real weird!

You could try running some MegaRAM converted games even if ExecRom can't detect it. Get some at MSX Files (don't remember URL now, google for it). They are in "Jogos" section / "Jogos MegaRAM" subsection (in case you enter the portuguese page). The english one, I never used, so I can't tell if they are there, but I think they are... If it runs, problems are with ExecROM. If not, your MegaRAM isn't really "connected" to your Turbo R.

In any cases, you should send a message at MSXBR-L. Folks there will be of more help.

Some MegaRAMs doesnt work on turbo-Rs, that's normal. I also have a MegaRAM which won't work on my turbo-R Sad

People here in Brazil tried replacing the memory chips for faster ones - that made some MegaRAMs work on turbo-Rs, but some still wouldnt work, I don't know the reason.

The new batch Ademir is selling work on any MSX, at any speed.

That's the one I got Wink . Also, the problem I reported suddenly stopped. I happened commonly in the 2 first days I got it. But its been 3 days that it has not happened again! Smile

I found at least one cause of the problems! It seems my MegaRAM's PCB (connector) is just not wide enough! When I put it in the slot, I can still move it! When I move it to the right, my turboR won't start up. When I move it to the left it is not detected. But when I put the MegaRAM in my slot expander and move it to the left, the MegaRAM is detected! (In sub slot 1.3.)

So, I can use ExecROM to run a ROM image with it, you'd thing. No... I tried a few ROM images, but the tR hangs after loading the image.... Sad

When I run TestRAM, it reports errors on 4 pages.... Sad

Is MegaRAM supposed to work from a subslot?

I find it strange that it reports errors, while it just works on the 8250. I will try to turn off R800 to see if that helps.

In any case: does someone have a MegaRAM for sale that works normally on turboR and has a *good* size PCB connector!? I find this rather alarming... (I could short-circuit my MSX with some bad luck!)

I have just run TestRAM, which tells me that I have 1024kb of RAM in my MegaRAM, am I right in saying that 1024k is actually 8Mb, looks like I've made an error!

Manuel I have tried my MegaRAM in all my subslots on a DDX slot expander and it appears to work fine. I use it in slot 1 unexpanded for the MegaRAM since my expander contains an SCC sound cartridge along with my Sunrise CF. The MegaRAM & SCC dont like to by allocated the same slot.

I dont use R800 mode.

I hope this helps!
