I didn't mean we should recommend using the AC-HB1/2 series, I meant people will be less likely to use them as they physically won't even fit.

Slot 2 is expanded slot 20 has write in it. SSR is complete.

Sdsnatcher73 tried to dump the subslots, but saverom.com and msxmem2.bas say there are no subslots in slot 2. Why do you think it's expanded?

What's the utility in MB-H50 to have slot 3 expanded (as it is in brand new openMSX configuration)?

You mean, why is it expanded? You can ask the same of the Philips VG 8020/20. I think it comes with the S3527.

As for the Sanyo PHC-77: there is no indication that slot 2 is expanded at all, so I would say it's not. But perhaps msxholder can explain why he thinks it is.

Ehmmm .... but there are machines with S3527 and without expanded slot: Canon V-8, Pioneer PX-V60, Sony HB-10, HB-20, HB-501, Victor HC-30, Yamaha CX-11, SX-100. Different implementation or some pins not connected???

Yes, none of the slots are expanded unless /RSEL is provided. If the slot 0 is expanded you can see diode installed between /RSTO and /X6. If the diode is missing, it means slot 3 is expanded.

I wonder if Hitachi intended to include a firmware and later decided not to. On the mainboard you can see an empty spot for a ROM, next to the Basic/BIOS ROM. That ROM may be in one of the other subslots of slot 3.

Underneath that open spot is actually another open spot, marked PAL only! Did they intend a release outside Japan at some point? The T6950A seems to support PAL so it may have been possible with the same mainboard.

It's actually the same slot map as for the MB-H3, but without the MSX2 Sub-ROM and without firmware ROM.

How exactly did you test that?
And why wouldn't saverom.com and msxmem.bas detect it?
