Phantasy Star IV (Sega Genesis)
A well-crafted RPG with an amazing, involving storyline.

Super Metroid (SNES)
Widely recognized as one of the best games ever made and possibly the best SNES title of them all.

Kirby's Adventure (NES)
Simply genius game concept.

Splatter House (Arcade)
Action-packed paranoia providing a platform for a portion of gore which was previously unseen and unheard of in any video game.

Castlevania Bloodlines (Sega Genesis)
Very interesting installment of the series, just flooding with creativity.

Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
Needs no introduction to RPG fans.

Mega Man 2 (NES)
More than excellent gameplay and blessed with one of the best 8-bit soundtracks ever.

Out Zone (Arcade)
Very intense shooter. Graphics and music are absolutely top notch.

Guardian Legend (NES)
Being a joint effort of Compile and Broderbund/Irem Corp., this dual system game combines the best elements of Zanac with birdsview exploration.

Space Harrier (Arcade)
Way ahead of its time, using Sega's revolutionary 3D engine which also backboned Outrun. Apart from obviously influental, simply awesome and very addicting.

Just a few suggestions, I could name many more like Snatcher for Genesis, Ninja Gaiden, Breath of Fire II or Strider Hiryū but...
...let's see yours! :)

Since you like the music of MM2, try MM3, I prefer the music in that one over MM2 (bless abbreviationsTongue)

Games I liked most back in the day and still consider one of the best:
- Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Megadrive)
- Streets of Rage 2 (Megadrive, not very commonly known publicly, so here's a vid)
- Super Mario Kart (SNES)
- Final Fantasy VII (Playstation, and no it was not the 1st JRPG I played)

Agreed, absolutely anothing wrong with the music of MM3 - above all it has the Proto Man theme (which always reminded me of the first tones of the 'Nationale Nederlanden' jingle, though). Wink
And no, people who know you a little bit wouldn't suppose FFVII to have been your first JRPG. Smile

(BTW, how could I forget about Chrono Trigger? Shocked!)

- Super Mario Kart (SNES)

That one is probably responsible for most wasted time by any single game. Big smile There really was nothing like it.

I'd like to list my favorite non-MSX games too.On the whole those are old because of my taste.

Knight Move(NES-Disk)
A puzzle game by Aleksei Pazhitnov.Rule is quite simple but score attack is very exciting.

Gunstar Heroes(GENESIS)
A maiden work of TREASURE.One of the excellent action game with ultimate coding technique and dramatic game play.

あっぱれ!ゲートボール(Appare! Gateball)(TurboGrafx)
Unknown good game.Gateball is a ball game alike to croquet. At a grance,it seems like only odd game, but really well made gateball simulator.

Soul Blazer(SNES)
Action RPG made by QUINTET,software house established by Falcom's original Ys developers. So If you like Ys,you will take to this.QUINTET's "Illusion of Gaia" and "Terranigma" are also good games. Those games are more Ys-like than recent Ys seriesTongue

Panel de Pon(Tetris Attack)(SNES)
The puzzle game I love most.Active-chain bonus is really revolutionary!

ThunderForce V(SS)
Very cool and hot shoot'em up with dramatic and dynamic effects and game play.Music is also very nice.

For Lucasarts fans: the remakes of Monkey Island 1&2 for PS3/X360 are well worth playing. Had quite some fun with Deathspank as well, although this one tends to get a bit too low-brow.

Red Alert (2) was indeed quite the classic indeed!
