Recently I was asked about the origin of The Iron Gauntz the MSX1 robot game. The dump is pretty everywhere so just google "Iron Gauntz" and you get one.
Name of the developer is Oops which doesn't sound like a proper company. If this game is Japanese (it does display a Japanese message in the first level) I guesstimate it had been submitted from a reader to MSX Magazine/MSX FAN. Do you know where this game came from?

Gameplay: You control a robot within an all direction scrollable narrow room. Shoot the enemy with space/A button, pushing SHIFT/B button continuously activates fast "mover", ESC displays stats. Go over a white tile to unlatch the door(s) to next level, a purple tile for power up/etc., green tile to add a game information. Levels are fixed and not random generated. I haven't found the final objective of the game.

Just beat this game recently. The objective is to reach room 256 and kill the last boss there, then escape.

Oops Wink no ohhh so thank you for the prompt and useful reply! "ENGLISH INTERPRETER NAKAGAKI" drew my special attention, indicating this game really was originally Japanese. I hope I can find out identify of the credited staffs.

Two of the credit names, Black Point and Hiroyuki Hataike are the pseudonyms of a single person, Ito Takehiko the renowned anime/manga artist. Robots in The Iron Gauntz are similar to Ito's style, but whether he really worked for TIG or just that the artist followed Ito's style is unknown. Ito's bio mentions nothing about the game industry but it's interesting Ito wasn't famous back in 1987.

Decided to take a break from mapping the game. Here's a playthrough of the game that I just finished:

Now this is interesting! Manuel Pazos managed to get some interesting things to display by modifying some filenames in Iron Gauntz. It's pretty clear now that the developers were intending to have Sega to publish the game. Smile Why this didn't happen is anyone's guess.

What do we have to rename exactly to "create" this version?

/aha/
Found it. ENDPRGS / ENDPRGZ & OPENINGS & OPENINGZ have to be exchanged Smile
Added this version to my dowloadsite.
