Hi guys,

I am playing some games for old times sake.
But the problem is that my PC beeps everytime if I press 3 buttons :S
While playing Zanac it is a real pain in the ***
Anyone know if its a build-in hardware "feature" or can I bypass this "feature"?

Greetz,

Henk

Indeed there are some combinations that have unfortunate side-effects and I don't think there are any hardware work-arounds for that. Especially the cursor-up + cursor-left + space or cursor-down + cursor-right + space are quite annoying. Fortunately Zanac has two keys which fire the two weapons seperately (space fires both weapons): shift and Z.

Depending on the emulator it's possible to remap the keyboard keys to the MSX matrix.

Do you think so? I find a polling-based keyboard quite the pain in the **... It happens often that I type the letters 'MSX' on my A1ST, resulting in 'MScolor 15,4,7'...

** pisses on the lame keyboard matrix ** Tongue

Retry: 'MS[pause]X' --> 'MSX' --> YAY! Tongue

well, the MSX keyboard suffers from ghosting too, iirc. It's just optimized better to allow for game-minded keyboard mashing...

Seriously: on one of your futuredisks (#39 iirc) the whole matrix plot is detailed. Arjan found it when coding the Metal Gear parody Wink

You know... It is not just habit to use GRAPH as second fire button (or N/M in Konami games). Some games also use SHIFT, but have you noticed that those games don't use keys F1-F3 at all. Smile

'MScolor 15,4,7'...
It is MSXcolor 15,4,7

Somehow I have also always had BASICY.BAT in my HDD path. Smile

There is no any mystery. Take a look at MSX keyboard matrix. (can be found from many manuals) If you see, that two keys are in a same row and you can draw a retangle, where three pressed keys are in the corners, the "ghost key" is the missing corner of the retangle.

So, if I understand correctly, its a hardware thingy.. I can't change a thing with software?

Nope, ghosting occurs on a hardware level... nothing you can do about it... I don't know if there are USB keyboards out there with a more game-friendly key-matix tho, you never know...

It is MSXcolor 15,4,7Hmmm... that must be compass then Wink... It apparently ignores everything typed within 1/60s after a line break Wink...

So that's why it is MScolor 15,4,7 here Tongue
