It's hard to choose for me. I picked RPGs, but for me they would kinda be tied with Shooters though.

Don't really know, but chose RPG because of Metal Gear and Xak... But I never really play them... Actually, I hardly ever play an MSX game...

hmm, unlike for some newer consoles or pc, I never had a game genre bias for MSX, so, "Other" for me.

My hardware knowledge is limited but I'd say MSX was very well optimized for shmups (and platformers).

just out of curiosity, how would you qualify king's valley (1 and 2)?
puzzle at first sight, although platformers would also suit.

best genre will be platformer with some puzzles and rpg elements (character building)

Thanks for the clarification. I never cared about scrolling. I was talking about sprites and the VDPs ability to handle many of them at once.

I'd say it's more a puzzler than a platformer, because you won't be able to finish a level with just platformin'

I voted for others. I dont really have a specific preference for games on msx. I always enjoyed Herzog a lot, you could consider it a strategy game. But also shmups, platformers and rpgs were favorite. Sporting games and puzzle games were less my thing.

Ys,XAK,Illusion city,Golvellius,Hydlide,emerald dragon,dragon slayer...and many many more...are superb games, MSX for me is the RPG system,and i love arcades but for me on MSX the RPG looks better than the arcades,regards.

Ok, so, this poll asks for you people's favourite category, and not for any runner-up positions. It's very well possible that sport games remain at 0%. Still, I wonder how fair this is considering the hours I've put in Konami's Ping Pong! And then there are racing games (F1 Spirit, Road Fighter, Hyper Rally etc.) that should belong to sport games too..

Konami's Ping Pong is the only game I know of that you can play by ear only and still win (even at level 5).

the insane amount of enemies thrown on screen at once...
...although that gives it a certain charm. I mean, in modern shmups they do it on purpose.
