Zett: nope, it's a fun unofficial poll, not the National Elections or something. People will understand it anyway. And besides, like Q noted: it's #msxdev I see, not #MSXdev.

Like you can see in this poll's announcement thread, people are confusing MSXdev'12 and #msxdev Compo 2012, so please use the correct name.

So disrespectful, this MSX Related Community... *sigh*

If it's causing confusion, clearly not everyone understands it.

You've got a title that is a combination of the two competitions.

Besides, I thought everything the MRC did was official?

I warned Robsy in 2003 that their new contest name would be causing confusion, but he didn't believe so Tongue

That said, #msxdev waited with organizing a competition until after MSXdev'xx died, partially for this reason. (Otherwise we would've done so in 2006 already)

Viejo_archivero still believes there need not be any confusion between the two, but when the (sadly) main MSX news site is constantly using the wrong names, confusion becomes increasingly likely.

(Also I'm finding that diplomacy and asking nicely does not work with you guys, so I might just go back to my former strategy... Evil )

That's true. I don't see the purpose of being stubborn. It's incorrect and obviously confusing.

Why refuse to change it, complete with false justification? Just change the frigging name and get on with things.

Correct chronology :

01/01/12 Launching of #msxdev Compo 2012
31/01/12 MSXdev’11 closes with 9 entries
02/03/12 MSXdev’11 results : Zombie Incident is the winner
10/03/12 End of the MSXdev' period with 3 judges and a team
12/03/12 Launching of MSXdev'12 by Karoshi Community

It is not just the caps. The difference is that the Karoshi contest is called MSXdev'xx, while the competition here is called #msxdev Compo xxxx.

A #msxdev'12 simply does not exist. I dont see what the point is of not correcting it. It takes maybe 10 seconds to change and will avoid further confusion. It would have probably cost you less time to fix it than posting your previous reply. There are already ppl confused about the 2 different contests... not changing a fun poll will simply just adds more confusion to it.

Before you know it ppl will want to enter #msxdev'13....

When a certain MRC admin (wolf_) offered a certain #msxdev regular (I don't remember who, but it wasn't me) more exposure for #msxdev Compo, nobody thought it would mean the name would be FUCKED WITH!!!

This is wolf's chronology for #msxdev Compo:
1. First writing only FUD for a year.
2. Then when it turns out there were 7 entries in the first edition, tries to jump on the bandwagon and say how nice it was all along.
3. Then trying to continue the FUD by causing name confusion.

After reading the newspost, the newspost reactions and the reactions here, is there ANYONE in the solar system who currently doubts which contest this poll refers to?

But, merely to avoid getting even more rants 'n crap I'll adjust the title to calm things down, not because I'm particularly impressed with the questionable display of the past 24 hours. Ahwell.. BA-team

Make like a tree, and click here. Sniff around and you'll see I only did the announcement of the 2012 edition, in the middle of the night when others would be asleep. The other news was not posted by me, nor edited by me - which follows the trend in which I've been less active anyway in 2012 and 2013. So yeah, a whole full year o' FUD, no doubt! oO

Why did I do a poll? Jumping the bandwagon you think? Get the F out.
1) we needed a new poll as the cartridge one was running a bit long
2) doing this poll was suggested/supported by people I spoke to, some days ago
3) as a gesture towards the contenders. As a challenge regular you could understand my loyalty is there - heck, given more time Infinite would've competed too, as you may recall. (and now I might as well think: *peep* with your compo in 2013, but maybe you're lucky)

Do you actually realize that this poll wasn't like *snap* and it's there? Do you realize that internally we've debated weeks ago already whether we could/should do an unofficial/shadow poll like this (during your official voting period).. I could tell everyone what the outcome was, and what everyone's 'fear' was based on, but do an estimated guess yourself. Even during this weekend I again debated this poll internally, for the exact same reasons. After I brought in the support from a group o' people around me, and the fact that the formal voting period was over anyway (so it wouldn't be like influencing the official results), we agreed. That's it, nothing more, nothing less.

ps. the *peep* was actually street poetry at your level, but sometimes it makes sense not to write down everything one thinks out loud. I (too) can recommend it!

So yea.. up for another year! Let there be great entries, and let's all vote again, "somewhere"! Considering the stories I hear from people who flee your place ("regular ranting into our general direction"), you'll have to do without my votes, that's a promise. Note that I've barely any spare time these days (busy job at the biggest music store in the BeNeLux), so I honestly haven't really seen or played any of the 2012 entries.

Right, I'm done, it's been a while since I've raised my keys like this, so I'll leave it. I'll assume the lengthy rants will come this way again.. I'll say: *peep*
(and growing increasingly immune helps)

The music and atmosphere in Pixie Dust is awesome. But I voted for Inferno, because of the sheer effort put into it. (had to test with MegaFlashROM... would I be able to run it from RAM, if I had more than 256k?)

I aree with Nanochess, Inferno could improve a lot with a bit of effort on animations of the main charter (at least). Rastan Saga, whose ripped sprites are on the net, could be an excellent starting point to fix the jerky walk and add frames to the attack.

Ayway, IMHO among demos No Pressure was the most interesting.
The result of the poll reflect my expactation.

I was just explaining nanochess how to enter an IRC chatroom, and for that registration is not required. Do you really think if random unknown names started to vote on one particular entry it would remain unnoticed? And by using that web client I linked you get some ID/masked ip thingy that you cant change yourself anyway.

Besides, if ppl wanna be lame by voting numberous times on themselves they can do that everywhere, even at the mrc poll.

Whether you use a proxy to vote on a website, or a proxy to vote on IRC makes no difference. I would even say that voting on IRC has a lower chance of proxy abuse, as IRC networks have usually armed themselves against proxies by using Open Proxy Monitors (BOPM for instance) and/or DNS (Real-time) Black(hole) Lists (RBL).

Even enforcing account registration is pointless with the hundreds if not thousands of throwaway (anonymiser) e-mailaccounts out there.
