Tiny Yarou made a pretty cool tool to play MSX games with PSG music on the SCC. From what I understand, it patches the BIOS or the BIOS calls, there are a lot of different options and modes of operation on MSX2 and turboR computers, as well as with cartridges, ROM files and disk games.

There’s also a standalone patch for Ys 2:

Here’s a video, there are more linked on the page above and on Tiny Yarou’s Youtube channel.

Even during Pause, insert a cartridge when the MSX is turned ON is a bad solution. The Turbo R is sturdy but other MSX supports less this shock. This is not without risk for the Turbo R either.

So this is like SCCPSG that comes with Playsoniq?

Of course useful for those without it :-)

Really nice! This brings us a new feeling like MIDI-PAC does with MSX-MUSIC games... It deserves a newspost!

Grauw, did you try it or someone else? AFAIK first you have to prepare the ROM files with SCCCONV.COM (SCCCONV.EXE in PC). I'm doing tests with MSX2 (64KB RAM) + MegaFlashROM SCC+SD 512KB. My understanding is that you should dump the ROM previously and next run SCC.COM which boots the computer patching the BIOS or whatever... but no success. Maybe is my MSX2 computer, I don't know. Maybe in turbo R works better. I'll try to test it with a MSX2+ later...

You don't need to convert ROM.
You can't use ROM in flash with SCC, the best is to use a Konami flashrom.

This is the simplest way use it :

Slot1 : FLASHROM SCC (SCC.ROM)
Slot2 : FLASHROM Konami (your megarom)

For 16/32Kb you can use SCC.COM your_rom.ROM

This is a wonderfull tool, have fun !

First of all, Why isn't this topic main news. It think it's the discovery of the century Smile Maze of galious, usas, metal gear, penguin adventure, eggerland 2, they all sound so much better. And it is relatively easy to use. Imagine konami would have released this software and sold it along with the scc+ carts. Play all your favorite konami's with scc Smile That would have been the bomb Smile I wonder, is the same thing possible for fm-pac ?

Anyways, I'm drifting off Smile I tried this software quiet a while and I was wondering if anyone else experiencing the same.

I did all my tests with Openmsx (latest version), not on real machines!

1) I can't get the scc converter to work (PC version nor the MSX version). It tried megaroms, 16kb roms. A nice .scc file is made, but when I try yo boot them, they all crash. I put scc in slot A and the converted rom in slot B. Is this the proper way or do I need to do anything else.

2) I can see a sccboot.rom but don't know what to do with it. Like the website mentions, the sccboot.rom doesn't work in openmsx, but I don't know how to fix this or what the purpose of sccboot.rom is.

3) The scc.com program has 6 options to boot, the 6th being insert a disk. I only get option 4-5-6 with the turbo R. I tried the sony HB-F700 with 256 kbram or a nms8250 with slot expander and 512kbram. Options 4-5-6 are only available with the turbo R.

4) The only way to get scc.rom to work is with 512 kbram or more. So I got it to work with a turbo R or with a 'regular' msx 2 + slot expander + 512kbram expansion.
Strangely enough, the YS1-2-3 patches work perfectly on a 128 kbram msx 2...

Does anyone experience the same ? Am I doing something wrong ?

For a little update, I did some more research.
Question 2 is solved. I used a hexeditor to enlarge the sccboot.rom to a nice 8192 bites and it works perfect, but only on turbo R since it's the only setup which can boot a disk.

Question 3 is sort of solved too: I did read the whole website now and I could see the scc.rom program only has the 4-5-6 options for turbo r, so this is as designed.

Fabf: Thank you for reply, I'll try it later. Anyway I don't understand what is the purpose of the SCCCONV tool. It's clear it adapts the ROM file for something...

TheKid: Fully agree, seeing the videos it looks fantastic, a newspost is a must. I'll try to write it asap.
