As far as I could test, one Gazzel song still seem to play incorrectly.
The flute lead in "Before the Battle" is distorted to some kind of plucked instrument (as happens in Micro Musics, in which multiple music files of this game are buggy).
Interestingly, other known trouble makers from the Micro Musics pack, the tracks "Dark Floor" and "Gazzel Resistance" play flawlessly.
Are those buggy Gazzel tracks known? They might be available in the game's own music player and be rerecorded.
The game's internal player indeed plays them correctly.
IIRC, it's those three songs that I mentioned which have the most obvious issues in Micro Musics.
I can do some experiments with micro music player. I saw it has the player code in the DAT file (I think it’s the part which starts with 0x0A. The actual disks may contain several versions of the replayer for different songs). And they may differ from disk to disk.
Also would be good to know if there is an in game sound menu in Tower of Gazzel that could be used and/or a savegame in that location could work.
Could you guys re-download and verify if "Before the Boss Battle" is like it sounds in-game? On the disks the player code is before a set of tracks. I took the player code that is in front of this track, overwrote all player code (5 times) in GAZZEL.DAT from micro musics and played/logged the track.
It does sound better to my ears but I am not a musician so probably not as well tuned
I don't know which tunes are off in mmusic, but if anyone can point them, check if you can rerecord them from the game. In game press F5 and you're in the music mode.

At least "Before the Battle", "Dark Floor" and "Gazzel Resistance".
They sound allright in Imagine II as well.
I have finished logging and trimming 46 XAK II tracks! Proof listening now and still need to do tagging but I expect to release by next week. I will then revisit Tower oh Gazzel and try logging some tracks with MicroMusics and the correct replayer code, if the resulting vgm’s sound better (which I suspect they might) I will relog those tracks (which will require matching all tracks to one of the 4 or 5 different replayer s, but it will be worth it).
Cool stuff! Looking very much forward!
And yeah make sure to use the correct replayer code, in the past I noticed that the Xak music I logged directly from the game played at a slower tempo than it did in MCDRV.COM (based on the Illusion City driver, which played the Xak I sound data slightly too fast).
Xak II pack is finished!
