Hello everyone. I'm a bit of a retro junkie and spent about 12 hours yesterday researching old computers for retro gaming. I'm already arguably quite the retro user with a Windows XP gaming pc, NES, PS1, etc. But I plan to go further with MSX and a few other retro PC's.

I have pretty much figured out all I need to know to get started (what to buy, where to buy, some games to start with, etc).

The one problem I have left is the monitor. I have a sony gdm-fw900 CRT Monitor. For CRT TV's I have a Sony KD-30XS955 and a Sony KV-36FV310.

For MSX gaming would these work well? I know my Sony GDM-FW900 supports 240P@120Hz but I have been told that would not work with a MSX without an adapter?

My main goal is for the display to work natively with non-emulated equipment. Namely, I don't want to change the resolution or image from the classic MSX games if at all possible.

If none of my monitors/TV's would work, what are the highly recommended monitors for MSX Gaming?

Thank you for any and all answers!

Any monitor with 15kHz analog RGB input would be suitable, if you have an MSX with RGB out (which will give you the best picture). It should be able to handle 60 and 50 Hz, ideally. And the aspect ratio should be 4:3 (or it should support that) to get the authentic look.

I personally use a Sony KX-14CP1 Smile

Anyway, MSX computers output nothing special. It's just what was commonly used in the 80's. So usually, 15kHz, 50/60Hz analog RGB, PAL/NTSC composite or PAL/NTSC RF. Those are your options. It depends on the exact MSX machine what it outputs exactly. What machine are you planning to buy?

The Sony KD-30XS955 can be used through a s-vhs cable (turbo-r's have those for example or Panasonic msx2+) or 8pin DIN to rca (RGB + audio) (don't know if those exist fabricated or you should solder one yourself).

Aspect ratio might be a thingy though, cause the screen is 16:9. Maybe, it can be switched to 4:3 ?

Oh, indeed, some of these Panasonics have S-VHS output.

Indeed. It's the WSX that has it.

WhiteleeMartinze and Jonesmartinze seem to be the same person who posted only to places their links in the text. I have banned both of them from the forum. So from now on this thread is for our entertainment only.
