Joining MSX BBS (telnet://sotanomsxbbs.org and telnet://bbs.hispamsx.org), Group List (https://lista.msxall.com) and even Twitter (https://twitter.com/msxall), a new dedicated MSX IRC channel is now open for everyone to talk about #MSX, exchange ideas, information, experiences, etc!

The new MSXALL IRC Channel can be freely accessed at irc.afternet.org:6667, channel #msxall

Feel free to join, register your nick and participate. All idioms are welcome.

Another MSX IRC channel... are you all aware of the existing ones? (Why add another one anyway?)

Hello Mr. Bilderbeek. Let me get my head around it for a sec...

More than 7.000 MSX games on my list. Why create a new one?
More than 500 MSX homebrew hardware last time I count. Why create a new one?
More than 10 types of IDE interfaces. Why create a new one?
More than 10 types of Sound cards. Why create a new one?
More than 30 Facebook MSX groups. Why create a new one?
More than 10 WhatsApp MSX chats. Why create a new one?
More than 1,000 MSX Websites. Why create a new one?
Lots of Wiki, forums, chats, email lists, Twitter... And I am not aware of them all (but I'd love to be). Commonly people keep creating more of it because it helps when people can communicate, so information can be exchanged. We should be concerned when people stop creating those and the void takes place.

About the IRC, well... I put it live for no reason at all other than celebrating the MSX and to communicate with people who also love MSX! In fact, I used to have this channel on the '90 and I simply decide to revive it, if that makes any difference at all.

On one hand, I am glad some MSX friends are enjoying it and having fun, connecting on it from MSX, using it to invite for Twitch sessions (SD Snatcher ROX), discussing new ideas, talking about events... etc... On the other hand, I'd be delighted if you could also join us one day, just for no reason at all. I personally have great respect for your persona and for everything you ever have done (and do) for the MSX. Sorry if I offended you with the #msxall IRC channel. I am just trying to do my part, if I may. :/

I love you all just because you all love MSX! Should I not?

If your intensions are good, never be sorry if you offended someone on forehand Wink
On the other hand I do see a point in Manuel's question. There's #msx on rizon which is about everything but MSX (most of the time). It could have some more if you ask me Big smile. There's #msxdev there as well. At freenode there's #openmsx where there's always something to do if I pop up there and then there's #msx at undernet. There's never anyone there but there is a nice quiz bot there for people who find life a bit boring Smile
So a few hands full of people scattered over available places already. More channels could split it up more. But on the other hand, I've checked #msxall yesterday for a bit and I saw names I never saw elsewhere. So if you keep those visitors, you're pulling the right string Wink

To be precise: recurring themes at #msx@rizon are:
- emulation
- VST's
- 'Allo 'Allo
- Fawlty Towers
- The Weird Wonderful World of EisBaer23 and anything he curses to kingdom-come

However, we do MSX as we please. It's just not an everyday topic. ^_^

A good reason to have more channels on IRC and servers is that i can test my IRC client if it works on other servers as well Big smile And yesterday i found out that it does Hannibal Hannibal Hannibal Hannibal

Guys, it is simply another IRC channel. What I meant with my response is that it is not different than another pub down the street when so many other pubs already exist. It is simply another space. Maybe with a different vibe, a different purpose... or redundant, doesn't matter. The whole point is: we should celebrate and stimulate initiatives, even when we may not fully agree with it.

As I said, I have huge respect for Manuel Bilderbeek, and all of you, but I believe we need more instead of less. I am so happy I have things to post about MSX almost every day on Twitter, and many topics to explore as posts for the MSXALL List. It is a great problem to have. More we integrate and communicate, more we will have things to talk about and celebrate.

To your point, Wolf_, it is a new channel where, maybe, due to its nature, it will be inviting for some people who may not be technical enough to participate on the other channels, or even if they are, sometimes we simply want to talk about non-technical stuff. Regardless, if we manage to capture the attention of one new person, that is one great victory for us all and for the MSX, which Meits well pointed.

Besides, how hard is it to actually use your IRC client to connect to ALL MSX IRC channels at the same time? I just connected to at least seven channels in different networks and I am not overwhelmed. Smile It is actually cool, and I hope I will be seeing a lot of talks soon... More material to publish on Twitter and on the Lists.

Here what I believe is missing: exposure. I just found all those channels because of Manuel's comments (thanks, Mr. Bilderbeek), which I will list here hoping others will also connect:

  • us.undernet.org, channel #msx
  • irc.rizon.net, channels #msx, #msxasm and #msxdev
  • irc.freenode.net or chat.freenode.net, channel #openMSX
  • irc.afternet.org, channels #msxall

I also found references to other IRC channels but most are not maintained or simply registered and abandoned.

Let's talk more MSX, enjoy more MSX and keep doing more stuff for the MSX.

Thanks, everyone!

Out of the IRC discussion for a sec (which has been nicely busy, BTW), and now getting into an art design question: who created the beautiful artwork added to this post? Smile

I love it. I'd like to use it on the site and other places, maybe with minor adjustments. It would be fantastic if the author authorizes me to do so. Of course, credits for the original design will always point to the original author.

It would be great to get the original file, assuming I will be allowed to reuse it. Big smile If so, you may email it to me at msxall@gmail.com.

Once again, thank you a lot!!!

Fully agree. But I just wanted to say this: "Gather if you can, scatter if you must..." For our small community I think in general it's good if people join rather than split up... but of course everyone is free to do what he likes Smile

Hi edoz,

I didn't get the message on my inbox... Sad When I was checking the reasons, I came to notice some misconfigurations in your server that I am sure are causing Gmail and other providers to reject inbound messages from your domain. SPF and DMARC records are critical nowadays for email deliverability, and I notice your server lacks both.

You can learn more about those specific here: https://mxtoolbox.com/domain/symbos.org/

I'll be glad to help if you need assistance in fixing those issues. I specialize in hosting and data center infrastructure, I even host many MSX Websites like Konamito's sites (msxgamesworld.com and msxblog.es), Sturaro sites (msxpro.com, etc) and others. If you need reliable and fully compliant hosting based on cPanel, fully email compliant and free SSL Cert - which, BTW, is also missing in your site -, feel free to let me know.

Looking forward to getting on my inbox that message I see in the screenshot. B-) As it is coming from an MSX running SymbOS. I will print it, frame it and hang it in the wall! :nishi:

ops... i never knew this. The mail server i use is just a quick next finish installation. As i don't have gmail i never noticed it. But this is good to know. Issue is that i used my "own" email server as i couldn't find a proper unsecured one on the internet...

Ops... About the title.. indeed a small typo Big smile i have to fix this as well Big smile

Why do you need an insecure email server? If you need, POP and/or IMAP, I can provide it, fully compliant. Let me know.

You really don't need SPF and DMARC to deliver mail to gmail.com even today.

Not sure in which facts you base your statement but I can assure you without those records properly configured GMAIL (and more serious email providers) will reject or, at minimum, quarantine inbound messages. Beyond that, repetitive offenses are reported to ORDB lists and from that point on is downhill...

Well, we can always extend this discussion in the #msxall IRC channel at irc.afternet.org:6667 (good, now this thread is back to the topic). Smile

I could tell you to send me an email to my Gmail, but I am afraid your message may not arrive for one or more reasons... hehe (just kidding. trying to be funny. sorry.)

Gmail has pretty strict policies in some areas, but requiring SPF and DMARC for inbound emails is not one of them. Not having SPF and DMARC is not an "offense" in any way. Perhaps you should "try to be funny" less.

LOL! Thanks, FiXato. It means there is still hope and I may "try to be funny" more, instead of less. LOL!

Regardless, I am thinking of promoting a Gradius week game adventure in the #msxall IRC Channel on irc.afternet.org:6667 and the goal is to hit as much as we can those dull unfriendly unhappy unfunny Moai heads. Maybe we can imprint a smile on their faces? We will surely have fun trying... Share your videos. Wink

Oh, I mentioned the IRC once again. We are back on the topic! I am on-fire!!! Smile2

It is a good time to re-take old habits. Lately, IRC has been more fun than ever. I've been meeting a lot new folks and find good vibes to reengage with old personal MSX projects.

If you didn't join yet, be welcome. There are several MSX related channels in many IRC providers. Doesn't matter where you connect, it is a great experience for those times where we must stay indoors.

Here a list I know about:

  • irc.afternet.org - Channels: #msxall and #msx
  • irc.freenode.net (or chat.freenode.net) - Channel: #openmsx
  • irc.rizon.net - Channels: #msx, #msxasm and #msxdev
  • us.undernet.org - Channel: #msx

You find nice folks and different conversations around to keep your mind busy and help pass time with your hobby MSX.

Join the channels, introduce yourself, engage in conversations and make friends.

Stay indoors and enjoy MSX!
