It seems to me (from what you’ve been discussing) there should be a tone of disbelief in the “What!”. As in Schneider was surprised by the message he’s reading. Is that correct? Then maybe adding a question mark to the exclamation might be enough. So “What?!”....
Schneider: He doesn't sound like teasing Snake, but doesn't sound like he did not know Big Boss ruled Outer Heaven until that moment. The literal translation of original "Nanto!" is "What!", but I think Surprise! is better than What!. How about "What the?" or "Oh dear..."?
In the U.S., someone saying, "Surprise!" is something we'd do for a birthday party or to reveal a gift for someone. For bad news, we would consider this sarcasm. "What!?" is in the current release already, so I agree with sdsnatcher73 that the interrobang fits best in this situation. "What the...?!" is a really good option. Takamichi, I think it clarifies your concern about Schneider's focus being external and would sound natural for American English speakers.

Is it true, that i cant use Gamemaster 2 in combination with this game. I can use the arrow keys for "game" "modify" and "self" but i cant select it.
The original version of Metal Gear works great.

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the Gamemaster II or how it works with Konami's games. I couldn't say whether it should work with the modified game or not. Nominally it should as long as the Gamemaster isn't coded to use a checksum of some sort to verify the game. The functioning of the game itself isn't altered by the patch, just the resources within it.

I've thought back on the project every once in a while over the years and almost picked it back up a couple times. I didn't, because my notes from the time were adequate for what I was thinking while doing the project, but not enough to get started easily after many years. The COVID shutdown happened and I got nostalgic one day and did a Google search for the patch to see if it was still around anywhere. I'll admit it was kind of weird to me to see the number of downloads on romhacking.net, for example. Kinda neat that 30,000 people or more have tried it. Then I saw the one review on the site that said the last message was missing, and decided to replay it to verify the bug. Sure enough it was there, and I felt horrible for the 30k people and Takamichi, because his name's on it too. So I did the bugfix and then took the time to relearn everything. Here we are, and I'm glad I went back to it.
Good old times. I remember how happy I was back then that someone finally made a proper translation of MG1. :-)
I feel the new font is way better, but I also see how someone can find it a bit hard on the eyes. I guess it’s the spacing in the letters. The original big font is easier to read, but looks bad and dated.
