MSX2 computers had SCC built in (in addition to the PSG).
MSX2 computers had horizontal scrolling.

And now some more realistic missed technical opportunities for the developer’s imagination:

The V9938 had a command completion interrupt.
The V9938 had a screen height of 240 lines.
The V9938 had sprites with palette colours in screen 8.
The V9958 had a 15-bit palette.
All MSX2+ computers had 5.37 MHz turbo.

The sprites in mode 2 on the V9938 had in the SAT a color pattern number instead of 512 bytes to be filled by the actual colors above the SAT

...MSX1 was released with the V9938
...MSX2 was released with MSX-AUDIO in most models
...MSXturboR was released with a V9978 (whatever it was, some combination of V9958 and V9990)

But... quite useless these what-if scenarios of things that have already happened Tongue

So, better think forward: imagine...
...a real all-in-one cartridge would exist, that was available to buy and not too expensive.
...a game that would use all power of V9990, R800 and OPL4 combined
...a great pinball game for MSX2 or the V9990
...the 8-bit guy starting to love the MSX
...more silliness....

Most of you are thinking about video and audio capabilities but fewer are thinking about main CPU development/speed, and RAM size. So I wish the following:

MSX1:
1. Built-in cassette drive (for machines with 64KB maximum RAM).

MSX2:
1. A real 16bit CPU with more speed and more capabilities. Lets imagine it as Z16.
2. More RAM (128KB minimum/256KB maximum)
3. At least one built-in disk drive (320KB minimum, 720KB maximum) with MSXDOS2
4. A real competitor and threat to Atari-ST, Amiga, and IBM PC-XT machines.
5. I won't take about video and audio capabilities because they got gradually developed.

MSX2+
1. A real 16bit CPU with more speed and more capabilities to be able to compete against Atari-ST and Amiga machines. Lets imagine it as Z16B.
2. More RAM (256KB minimum/1MB maximum)
3. At least one built-in disk drive (720KB minimum, 1.44MB maximum) with MSXDOS3 (FAT16 support) + Windows3.1-Like GUI environment.
5. Built-in harddisk drive.
6. A real competitor and threat to IBM PC-AT machines.
7. I won't take about video and audio capabilities because they got gradually developed.

MSX3:
1. A real 32bit CPU with more speed and more capabilities to be able to compete against IBM PC (386) machines. Lets imagine it as Z32.
2. More RAM (640KB minimum/16MB maximum)
3. At least one built-in disk drive (1.44MB minimum/2.88MB maximum)
4. Built-in harddisk drive with Windows95/Windows98-Like OS along with MSXDOS4 (FAT32 and long filenames support).
5. At least one built-in CDROM drive.
6. A real competitor and threat to IBM 386/486 machines.
7. Ability to run Linux OS.
8. I won't take about video and audio capabilities because they got gradually developed but they must be competitive against 386/486 video & audio capabilities.

MSX4:
A machibe which can compete with Pentium machines in all aspects.

MSX5:
A machibe which can compete with nowadays modern PC/Apple machines in all aspects.

Those are my wishes for MSX which could be able to survive and continue to live today for serious computation just like PC/Apple machines get frequent development till today since they first appeared.

Command completion interrupt on v9938 and up.
7mhz internal clock on the v99x8
Vdp commands at 20x speed.

There was always this platform game I once played along time ago that should have been decently ported to msx2 when I was a kid.
R800 on every msx.

Even better. A reissue of the msx. Real hw no fpga or emu.

...there were still functional Takeru disk- and cartridge-writer machines available for customer use in some dusty old computer shop somewhere.

...Game Arts had ported Zeliard to MSX2 using the same base engine as Fire Hawk.

...there were a version of Archon on MSX.

or

...Akanbe Dragon had a two-player head-to-head mode.

... a new MSX 2 (or 2+/tR) machine with dedicated chips (no FPGA)
... a cartridge with all most popular MSX audio/music chips (no FPGA)
... a way to control a MSX from a PC to facilitate the development/debug of new program on real hardware
... a good debuger for OpenMSX ^^

Yeah, too bad... The nicest youtube series, of which 8 bit guy is one, are hosten from countries that have no history with our system. Can't blame them to not show MSX.

But at least they talk English Running Naked in a Field of Flowers
