Hi!, I came across a Youtube clip the other week about the Omega MSX2 computer, and it got me thinking about my MSX gear and wondering what I still Had.

My first computer was a Sony HB-75AS, it came with one joystick and 3 cartridge games, and retailed for $499aud

This was a start of a journey for the next several years, the Sony MSX1 was relegated to second choice after I imported a second hand Sony HB-700D and books and accessories from a guy in the Netherlands, I cannot remember what it all cost me now, but wasn't cheap, it was all packed into a tea chest box.

When MSX2+ was released, I purchased one direct from Japan, I also purchased a hand held scanner, but all of the instructions were in Japanese, and I never did work out how to use it.

For a period of time I and a couple of younger friends took over and produced a newsletter, SVI and MSX Australasian User Group, I even formed a business with another friend to sell Sony MSX Computers and Peripherals.

So, I went out to my garage, searched through some boxes, and pulled out what I could find.

I currently have:
Toshiba HX-10AA - Good Condition & Working
Spectravideo 738 Express with Carry Bag, Original MS-Dos & CP/M Disks and Manuals - Still Working
Sony HB-700D that I purchased from the Netherlands - need to get a new clock battery for this, cleaned it up today and once I get a replacement battery, I will test it.

Add-Ons
Spectravideo 767 Data Cassette and Manual in original foam insert, but no box - Not Tested yet.
Sony PRN-C41 Plotter Printer, Top Lid Broken & Glued Together, No Power Pack, but I have Tested that it turns on with a benchtop power supply.
Sony GB-6 Trackball in Original Box - Not Tested yet.
Yamaha MU-01 Mouse in Original Box - Not Tested yet.
Yamaha FD-051 Floppy Disk Interface in Original Box - Not Tested yet.
Spectravideo Quickshot IX - Works but we took the Led's by the firing buttons out years ago, and I cannot remember why.
Konix Navigator Joystick in Original Box - Working
A Generic Joystick with a Red Knob and 2 Red Buttons - Don't remember the brand of this one, but was very common, and easy to replace the limit switches in when they failed.
Spare 3.5" Floppy Drive in a Home Made Case that I think I used as a Second Drive on the HB-700D

Well that's all of the original stuff I have found to date.

I have heaps of back up disks to check and see what still works, these are MSX, MSX2 MSX 2+ Games, Demos, Utility Software etc.

I see that Print Lab, Sony Quicknotes and I presume Intelligence Software Thinkman are in the undumped list, I have not touched my MSX in 25 years, so if they are wanted, and someone can run me through the procedure on how to, I am happy to do so.
Just have to get the battery for the HB-700D and get the old girl fired up.

Well, that's some info about me.

Cheers All..

Welcome! Nice collection of MSX stuff you have Smile About the undumped software, for now a dump of the disks is possible if you have a PC with an 3.5" disk drive: https://www.msx.org/wiki/How_to_make_a_floppy_disk_image
To dump a ROM you need some extra hardware: https://www.msx.org/wiki/Copying_cartridge_software

Welcome to the MRC!
That's a good start for a second love with MSX. Smile
There wasn't much MSX users in your region back then, I guess. Where did you bought all this?
You said you got your 700D from the Netherlands; how did you got in contact with the owner?
Nice story, really!

The SVI & MSX Australasian User Group newsletter had members worlwide.

From memory the guy in the Netherlands advertised it in our newsletter.

The Japanese MSX2+ was organised buy an Australian living in Japan, I had to send him cash, in Yen, and he bought it and sent it to me he used to make a service fee on each sale.

There were quite a few sold in Australia, Yamaha CMX5, Pioneer P7, all of the Spectravideo Compters up to the SVI-738, Sony, Toshiba and I think I saw some Sanyo's

There is a seller in W.Australia selling some cartridges on Facebook Marketplace at the moment, I purchased an unboxed Salamander cartridge off him over the weekend.

When I got to messaging him, it turns out he was from Tasmania and used to get the Newsletter when he was a child, told me it was my fault he still plays retro games Smile
