5tile (pronounced as 'style') is a brandnew cross-development tool to create 8x8 and/or 16x16 tiles for screen 5. It's not a regular designer, you can't draw freehand, draw circles, draw lines, paint etc. But what it does offer is a handy zoom-editor with a rich featureset to make the life of demo- and gamedevelopers much easier.
5tile is the first chapter of a trilogy, the other chapters are a generic map editor, and 4satile (pronounced as 'versatile'). The latter one is more or less like 5tile, but then for screen 4, or screen 1, if you don't change the palette.
A brief overview of the current features:
- 8x8 and 16x16 zoomsizes
- sc5 [load/save] (256 lines without palette or 212 lines with palette)
- sc7 [save], twice as wide (256 lines without palette or 212 lines with palette)
- bmp [save]
- palette [load/save]
- palette in asm (dw BRGh, BRGh etc.) [save]
- palette editor with: color spread, color lock, copy, swap etc.
- zoom editor
- zoom modifiers: rotate, mirror, h/v scale2x, shift etc.
- tile preview, shows a tile 'tiled' (handy for grass and other repeating tiles!)
- tile overview with: copy, copy transparency, swap, scale, grid etc.
System requirements:
- Microsoft Windows
- A mouse with at least 2 buttons
- Minimum resolution: 1024x768
- 1 ghz or more recommended (this is a rough guess however!)
If you are serious about the revival and demo and/or game development, then this application will suit you! Price will be 10 euro's. If you want to get your own copy at the fair in Tilburg, reserve one by sending an email to Wolf (mvs@mvs-music.tmfweb.nl) before saturday. After Tilburg, 5tile will be sold at the MRC webshop.
