We are glad to announce a new MSX Users Meetup that will be hosted by the Centre for Computing History (CCH) in (Cambridge, UK) uring the weekend, from Friday (May the 3rd, 12:00pm-22:00pm) to Saturday (May the 4th, 10:00am-17:00pm). The encounter will be possible thanks to the CCH, as well as the AAMSX and AUIC associations, even though it will be an open space for anyone and any group that may like to join in :)

The gathering will perform the following activities across the whole event:

  • Alive MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+ and MSX Turbo-R computers
  • Alive MSX Clones (Zemmix Neo, MISTer and ZX-Uno)
  • Homebrew hardware and peripherals
  • Homebrew software and videogames
  • MSX Clinic: Hardware analysis and repairs
  • Conference: Introduction to the MSX Standard – What to know and where to start
  • Users Roundtable: What’s new in the MSX Community? Past, present and future
  • Audiovisuals: Demoscene, Music and Videogame Rolling demos, Commercials and Reviews
  • Small talks about new and current projects (depending on proposals and attendees)

This will be a unique time to be together in a very special place, and we would be glad to meet with other members of the international community if possible. UK is a nice hub to meet by with really competitive flights.

Please find some extra details there, web posts at AAMSX and CCH will follow up soon!

Hi Valkyre! Initially it was thought as a one-shot, party mode for Friday just because some of us will be around during the day. Besides, I've talked with @k0ga and @Maki (AAMSX) and they are really quite positive to extend the event until Saturday included.

I will request the time extension to the CCH, and with their feedback I'll try confirm the time extension for a two-day meetup soon. The Centre is really, really awesome! Cool

This is very short notice, unfortunately i am involved with elections on Friday. I am standing as a candidate so i really cannot miss that in case i win (unlikely!!)

Where is the exactly is it? Postcode/location? Is it far from the railway station? I have I MFRSCC+ and Carnivore 2 i could bring, if i have time to find them! Smile

It is a two hour train journey from Leicester, but it would be fun to meet other UK (and foreign) users. I would arrive in Cambridge at around 11am, there appears to be no public transport from the station to the place?

I really thought there where only a handful of MSX users in the UK, which there probably is! There is a MSX UK Facebook page also. UK MSX Revival? I think not? A great day out after weeks of electioneering, yes please!!

This sounds like a more interesting place than the Leicester based UK Retro Computing museum, although the RCM is a 15 min walk from where i live of a 5 min bus trip.

Hi there! Shortly after the news post I got engaged on a trip to London, so I couldn't follow up the forum until today... oO

The experience was amazing and we learnt a lot during the gathering: I've compiled some photos in this gallery during the first day. Besides I had to fly away to Manchester during mid-Friday...luckily Maki and k0ga (as well as Raúl) where there from the beginning until the end.

Curiously Chris Curry (one of the founders of Acorn, the seed of what would become later ARM) passed by the Centre and we missed the moment to meet him, and a very nice german IT engineer (an Atari homebrew dev) passed by with his couple, also an IT engineer from Seattle. There was also a surprised young Japanese couple around that didn't know anything about the MSX standard and their history, and we shared a nice time with Jason, Tony, Adrian and the volunteers of the Museum.

Maki and k0ga may extend the experience during Saturday ;) We absolutely recommend -if you pass by Cambridge- to visit the museum if you can. Thanks to the AAMSX for being there, home of the life-longest vintage computer users meeting ever held in Spain since 1994!

Never seen so many MSX's all running at the same time in the same place in the UK for at least 30 years!
