The Spanish hardware forge 8bits4ever surprises with another new piece of hardware.

The F1 is basically a Gotek floppy disk emulator clone. It's fully compatible with all the firmwares for the Gotek: FlashFloppy, Cortex and HxC.

It can be connected to a host through a standard 34 pin floppy ribbon cable and it's compatible with virtually any computer with a floppy disk interface (though some might require a custom ribbon cable to be made).

It can be powered by the standard 4 pin ATX floppy power connector, but also with a regular 5V DC power supply. It includes a 16x2 LCD screen display and a internal buzzer to simulate the disk activity noise.

Product info
F1 Floppy Disk Emulator. Compatible with FlashFloppy, Cortex, HxC firmwares. The unit mounts floppy disk images stored on a USB drive and it behaves like a real floppy drive. Supports a wide range of floppy image formats.

Works great with our FDC600 (MSX), our SDI1 and PlusD (ZX Spectrum)!
Attention: The Gotek clone does not includes the power supply nor the ribbon cable.

I would make the case black and apply laser engraving, like I do for the RBSC stuff. I would also design the removable cover for the connectors' area. Or maybe it would be better to design this thing in the form factor of the real floppy drive. I would love to see the board...

Sorry for my ignorance, but is this device supposed to be external? With the display on top you won't be able to read it when it's built in. Having it loose on the desk could be a tad undesired imho.

Given where the screen is placed, it is necessarily external. The gotek with its LED display replaced by a small OLED screen on the front is preferable to put internally, and it's cheaper.

No need for another build in drive hee but I would really like to see a device like that:

A Gotek build in an FDD controller cartridge! :P

Too expensive, just build one yourself with a regular gotek. Will cost you about 25 euro all in.
Also, if they advertise these for MSX, they should at least include a floppy controller cartridge.

Despite currently not being on stock, they additionally sell floppy disk controllers.

Hamlet, I will think about the possibility of making such device. I have all necessary components - the FDC controller, Gotek device and 3D printer for doing the case. Just need a display. Any idea what display they used?

Alexey, you can use that:

Some info here:

With this small screen you may be able to use a cartridge case of current size.

Thanks, but the display they use in F1 is not OLED, but the 2x16 character LCD with backlight. I think it's better fitting the "oldschool" device.

This LCD display with backlight is not "oldschool", it's just ugly.

If you want a display like old school, take a green LCD or VFD display.

I contacted 8bits4ever and got some interesting insights. I can't disclose much, but some dreams may come true.

Has someone added this or a gotek as a second drive to the SVI-738?

Is it just a matter of making a custom ribbon-to-DB25 cable?
