On May 2nd, 2004 we started the very first MSX in the Media Challenge. The objective? To get more attention for our beloved MSX computer in media that usually not report about MSX and to create awareness on how much attention MSX still gets in the media. After receiving a grand total of 80 nominations, 4 potential winners were selected during a megapoll:
- The Spanish TV Station TVE2 reporting about the MSX computer on Navarparty
- The Brazilian Newspaper O globo reporting on MSXRio 2004
- The One Chip MSX getting attention on the cover of (and in) the Japanese Weekly ASCII Magazine
- The One Chip MSX appearing on several VNUnet websites like PCMweb
- The Dutch computernews portal Tweakers.net reporting about the One Chip MSX
As of today, a new frontpage poll is running which means the results of the first MSX in the Media Challenge are in. The three separate entries on the One Chip MSX gathered 45.05% of the votes, but there was one single event of MSX getting in the media that got the same amount of votes and thus won the MSX in the Media Challenge. The media attention was caused by a Spanish MSX user who, in spirit of the idea behind the challenge, did everything he could to get MSX in the media. By taking his MSX to the Navarparty , Salvador Perrugoría Lorente (spl) grabbed the attention of TVE 2, a Spanish television station who decided to do an item on MSX in their TV Show straight away. For these efforts SPL will be rewarded with the prize to the first MSX in the Media Challenge: a Sunrise ATA-IDE interface for MSX.
Here are the full results:
- MSX on the Navarparty on TVE 2 (Spanish TV) (45.05%)
- One Chip MSX on Tweakers.net (22.52%)
- One Chip MSX in Weekly ASCII Magazine (17.12%)
- MSXRio report in O Globo newspaper (9.91%)
- One Chip MSX on several VNUnet websites (5.41%)
At the moment the second MSX in the Media Challenge is running. If you manage to get MSX on national television, or in highly popular websites or magazines, just like spl did, chances are high you will become MSX ambassador of the year. You can find out more on the current MSX in the Media challenge right here.
The new poll put on the frontpage is the finale of the 'Which is the most important MSX news of 2004' megapoll. For the second year in a row we are going to have a look at what our visitors thing was the coolest MSX news of the year. The following four newsposts have made it to the finale:
