On November 22nd we started the first programming contest on the MSX Resource Center. The purpose? To create a snowfall-effect on MSX, no matter the specifications or programming language used. Why? To show developing for MSX was, is, always has been and always will be fun. As an extra motivation we offered some interesting prizes. Within 6 weeks we had received no less than 25 snowfall demo's. Now, it was up to us to decide which ones had won the prizes. Wammes Witkop, former editor and publisher of MCM and MCCM, now publisher of PC-Active volunteered to head the jury.

Together with the MSX Resource Center administrators and one of the MSX Resource Center webmasters, Carlos Milán Figueredo, Wammes's votes being the most important one by far, we now can announce the 8 demo's that have won a prize in this first challenge. Here they are.

01. HiSpec Demo by Patriek Lesparre
02. Xmas 2003 by TeddyWareZ
03. Digital Snow by Infinite
04. YASD by David Heremans
05. Snowfall Demo 5 by Sjoerd Mastijn
06. Xmas by Darkstone
07. Nieve by Imanok
08. Lumi 2 by Nyyrikki

We will contact the prize winners soon, sequentially, so they can select the prize they would like to have from the list of remaining prizes. Apart from these prize-winners, we picked one of the submissions randomly. This random prize was won by Benno van den Boogaard (16th snowfall demo). If you would like to know the entire top 25, and read a few words of the jury you can read this forum topic, where you can give your opinion on the Snowfall challenge and its submissions as well.

We plan to do more challenges later this year in several categories, so MSX coders, graphicians and musicians: keep an eye on our frontpage, we hope you will all join in next time, lets see if we can get even more submissions this time!

Wow, the one winning the MSX Magazine will have both the editor's autograph and the fingerprints of Wammes with it. Smile

Congratulations to all the winners!

And the MSX1 ratio (1/8) is close to the reality in the MSX scene. Nevermind, keep coding!

If you have a Gfx9000 but no turboR, you can still watch it (only slower)...
