As a lot of people might expect, Metal Gear Origin is not a new Konami sequel (or prequel) in the famous Metal Gear series. Even a brief look at the website might let you believe that this site comes straight from the 'real thing'. However, Konami is not behind all this...

A new team of developers, called Joy Division, have started to make a fan-game based on the first Metal Gear releases. This means that the game will be 2D and text-based. The game will be designed for Sega Dreamcast computers. Several improvements will be made to the original game concept to improve gameplay and difficulty.

The site now mainly describes (part of) the plans of Joy Division with this game, and quite a list of reasons why they assume that Konami will not dislike this fan-game. One of the reasons - according to Joy Division - is that the game will not be released commercially. Konami is, however, known to dislike fan-games in the past. The planned release-date is still far ahead of us (August 24, 2004).

Yes, Konami dislikes fan-games very much. I remember a perfect smooth scrolling SNES-conversion of SD-Snatcher...

Just to clarify, "Several improvements will be made to the original game concept to improve gameplay and difficulty." isn't an entirely accurate statement.

Each MG title plays by its own rules, and so will ours.

Regardless, thanks for posting the news, Snout!
