MSX Association and Konami

Several months have gone by since we last heard something from the MSX Revival. On october 23d 2005 we reported about the One-Chip-MSX getting a second chance. Since that moment, nothing but silence.

Just yesterday, MSX Association updated their website for the first time in a long period. Its new content is kinda interesting, they are asking for official manuals from Konami MSX games such as Metal Gear 2 -Solid Snake-, Space Manbow, Q-bert, Super Cobra, Sky Jaguar, Twinbee and many others.

Of course, MSX Association claims to aim for a preservation of all MSX software titles which have ever been released. It is striking though they are specifically focussing on Konami titles now. It is speculation, but could this mean Konami is somehow involved in MSX Association activities? Are we going to see Konami MSX games getting sold via Project EGG or WOOMB in the future?

Probably, we're reading too much in this MSX Association request, we promise you though, as soon as there is more information to tell, we'll update you right away.

Strange... If Konami cooperates with MSX Association they easiest way to obtain the manuals is ask Konami directly.

It surprises me anyhow MSX Association is asking for manuals from such well known MSX software titles, actually Smile One would expect they already have those games....

Well, of course the whole idea of preservation is to preserve goods in an as good a quality as possible. Apart from that, previous experiences from EGG with other large Japanese software companies have learned that very often those titles are no longer available at the companies that once made them, being either damaged, lost, sold, given away (e.g. to former employees), etc. Don't forget that it's been about 15 years since Konami last sold MSX games...

I agree. "We are collaborating with Konami but we are asking the MSX Community for Konami users manuals"... sounds like a joke. And if it's true they are keeping their collaboration secretly... Tongue

while they're asking, could the pleasy ask to go to the 14th storage bunker at the konami HQ?
This is the place where the carts are that have not been released. Ditched projects, vampire killer
follow ups, and not to forget SD versions of all their previous games.
I mean, sure santaclaus-san has got some surprises in his sack (......) now has he? Tongue

As always from Mr Nishi...just vapor...If Mr Nishi have thought deeply and arrived at a conclusion of MAKING THE THINGS RIGHT,HE WILL SPEAK CLEAR AND LOUD!.Please, don´t play anymore with the fan´s feelings...that´s cruel...and is more cruel when Mr Nishi has only eyes for his beloved Japan and we not existt for him.

It is not really such a special thing that MSX Association is looking for those manuals. As you probably know, MSX Association works closely with D4 Enterprise and together they aim to preserve MSX software titles. In order to do so, they frequently post requests for original software (and/or manuals), preferrably in a good state. The newspost at the MSX Association website doesn't mention why they are looking for those manuals at the moment, but it may simply be for preservation purposes. Time will tell.

you'd think they'd have this stuff for back-up somewhere... at least being able to reprint manuals by having the printing acetates.
Oh well, in what is sometimes called the worst documented era, I don't blame them Tongue
