Topic: Software

After being announced earlier this week, Muffie, an active developer from Brazil has just released his two new Coleco-to-MSX conversions!

Montezuma's Revenge:

  • Proper sound timing
  • Original game modified to allow: restart after game over (1 continue allowed for Level 1)
  • Tested with Execrom (inside emulator) and with execrom on: Turbo-R A1ST and Brazilian Expert DDPlus

Pepper II:

  • 100% emulated sound
  • Still not working with execrom however

On the todo for these games prior to their expected cartridge release:

  • support for machines with sections of RAM in different slots: 32k in slot2 (page 2 and 3) and another 32k in slot 3-2 (page 0 and 1)
  • New intro with 83 style

Note that, as there are still some issues related with ROM loaders, Muffie considers these ROMS beta versions, so any feedback is welcome. Send your reports to and all will be fine. The ROM files can be downloaded at MSX História.

A friend reported problems with pepper 2 on TR's.
Pepper 2 conversion was downgraded to Alpha Stage. It works on Brazilian MSX1.

Anyone else has some reports about it?

Thanks for porting and releasing these 2 nice games to MSX, Muffie. Smile

Just as a suggestion, you could use in your ports an opening screen to bring a small enhancement to your work. If I'm not mistaken, Rafael Jannone did a really nice web tool that converts a png file to screen 2 format.

I tried the tool doing a convertion of the picture of the box of the Atari 2600's version of Jungle Hunt with excelent results.

Anyway, just a suggestion... Smile

* Pepper II problem of not running on MSX2 or higher is now fixed.
* Montezuma and Tutankham versions are now with cool colors (msx2 or higher) and with more accurate sounds. Plz try those to check differences.

I was thinking about execrom issues. Shouldn't be better to release also .COM versions of the game?
Big smile. Anyway, Tutankham and Montezuma are working flawlessly on it.

In order to not have multiple versions to maintain I'd suggest you investigate why execrom does not work, rather than doing a com version
