Adriano Camargo Rodrigues da Cunha has released a new utility for MSX called ONEDRIVE. Inspired by a Brazilian utility called CONTROL.BAS, which enables only the A: drive in an MSX computer system, freeing a bit of base memory, this version offers the same functionality, but with a few differences:

  • ONEDRIVE works on all MSX machines, while CONTROL.BAS only worked on Brazilian MSX computers equipped with Brazilian disk interfaces
  • ONEDRIVE can be called from the DOS prompt, going back to DOS or going do BASIC after enabling only one drive
  • ONEDRIVE can be called from the BASIC prompt, going back to BASIC after enabling only one drive
  • ONEDRIVE can be called from BASIC by BLOAD,R
  • ONEDRIVE can be called from BASIC by BLOAD and USR, so it can be integrated to game loaders (no more those boring "press CONTROL while computer reboots" messages)
  • ONEDRIVE can load and run a BASIC program after enabling only one drive (if called at either DOS or BASIC prompt with BLOAD/USR)
  • ONEDRIVE can enable not only drive A, but any other drive (but this drive must be the first one of a disk interface)
  • ONEDRIVE is DOS2 compatible: under DOS2 nothing is changed about the drives on system, but the drive specified is assigned as A: and the BASIC program is loaded (if specified); this way a program that uses ONEDRIVE to free up memory will also run under DOS2 with no changes

ONEDRIVE 1.0 is available at the "MSX page" section of Adriano's website.

You could as well have patched the diskrom to invert the CRTL-key action Wink

Great tool! Perhaps it'll be possible to run Metal Gear 2 from harddisk on my 512kB turboR with this one? (Anyone tried it yet?).

Snout, I run MG2 with ExecROM, so I don't have memory problems. But I think that patching MG2 loader would be better, so you can run it from HD, and not only from floppy (from floppy just format under MSXDOS1 and create an autoexec.bas using ONEDRIVE).

Strange... I run MG2 with MegaRAM, Sunrise IDE and SCC on my TR GT and everything runs fine... Of course I'm using ExecROM. How do you load MG2 on MegaRAM? Do you use ExecROM or it's a BASIC loader?

No clue yet... MG2 runs fines at home with latest ExecROM version. Do you mind sending me the ROM/XPC and also your ExecROM copy by e-mail (get it on MRC contacts list), please? BTW, how ExecROM hangs up? With a blue screen? After loading/patching/stopping drive message?

It's sad, but Adriano left the MSX scene more than 10 years ago.

Even if you get his e-mail, I don't think he will answer. Sad
