After the release of the MSX1 compatible IDE/CF driver, it was only a matter of time until the first step-by-step tutorial on how to install an IDE cartridge on MSX1 was to appear. Adriano published such a tutorial in Portuguese, in which he describes how to get things working for both the Sunrise ATA-IDE/CompactFlash interface and the CIEL IDE interface. The tutorial includes links to the software needed, links to external information and pictures of an MSX1 in IDE action.

The tutorial also includes modified versions of IDEFDISK and Sunrise IDE BIOS 2.40:
- IDEFDISK:
a) fixed a bug that causes program crash on machines with mapper in other slot than the main RAM;
b) direct access to VDP at ports 88h-8Bh allows running the program with 80-column cartridges that uses V9938 (eg Gradiente CT80NET); on a standard MSX1 machine nothing will appear on screen (the original IDEFDISK fills the screen with garbage, being a bit annoying), but the program will be fully functional, making it possible to use it under "blind usage" (just follow the step-by-step instructions);
- IDE BIOS:
a) added external memory mapper initialization, thus not requiring burning the MSX ROMBIOS EPROM with a modified ROM version with memory mapper support;

If there's enough demand, I may translate the tutorial to English.

Although its not that hard to understand portuguese (with some help from babelfish) it would be great to see a good english translation. I would definately appreciate it.

yeah, and if you like, please send me additional texts for the Ultimate MSX FAQ. It would be nice to have a good answer to: Can I use IDE on MSX1?
