Emulator refused and so did turbo R

This image indeed seems faulty. Neither CocoaMSX nor openMSX on Mac likes it:
- Disk I/O error when doing FILES in BASIC
- 'No such sector' when doing 'diskmanipulator dir diska' in openMSX.

This disk image is 720kB, but the original game is single sided. I made a DMK disk image from the original disk, which includes the copy protection. Runs fine in openMSX Smile

Even the one on MCCM Millenium doesn't work :/
I guess I'll contact Quibus @ IRC...
(wondering if DMK is usable on a real MSX Running Naked in a Field of Flowers )

No need of a DMK version, I have since 1995 a DSK version that works very good, no any problem Smile

omg... I need you to help me on that one (it's freeware)... Can you submit it as upload to MRC? The fawlty (towers) version can be replaced then...

It's a crack, I also have one, don't worry about that.

Need it...
I want to play it on my real MSX... Since I don't have a cracked version (yet) I did the following:
- format a DSK in dos1 mode double sided
- Booted a turbo R in dos2 mode
- Made quite a huge ramdisk
- inserted the working DMK image and copied the content to H:
- put TROJKAHD.COM by Bifi on the formatted DSK and inserted that image
- copied TROJKAHD.COM to H:
- went to H: and typed TROJKAHD/P
- it prompted that the patch went well
- copied H: to A:

I assumed that I had a version that'd work from a HD, which would mean it'd be cracked by the patch and thus no longer need the original disk, in this case the DMK image.
So with just the DSK with the modified Trjoka files + TROJKAHD.COM on it I typed TROJKAHD without any parameter. It booted Trojka just fine. The game screen just stays empty and silent :/

By the way... I noted, even with the DMK version, that the vertical scrolling txt before game play flickers rather irritating... I don't remember that from the time I did have the original disk...

Weird stuff is going on...

Are you sure you need to copy the content before running the patch software? What about patching on the DMK directly and then copying the content? (This is a long shot...)

The flicker might be a vsync emulator issue.

Manual does have maybe the good file, but it seems that giving it, even when it's freeware, is not in his intentions ...

So, here's a temporary link to the working DSK without any TROJKAHD.COM :

Thanks mars... I've tried your version...
In the latest openMSX it plays without sound when there's too much RAM available (probably the original would suffer the same)... The flickering in the vertical scrollers is gone... So far a good version of Trojka... Though when extracting the DSK to a disk using putdisk on my MSX, I get a non-working Trojka. This is odd, because iirc putdisk works sector based and therefore it should create a mirror copy of a not protected DSK image...

Will go try Manuel's DMK and patch that one (a copy of it of course), and if that doesn't work either, I'll ask him on IRC to hand me the working cracked version...
Manuel's proposed procedure didn't do anything different than what I already tried...

It's evident that the present Trojka in the download database needs to be replaced Wink So it better be replaced by one that works 100% and preverably straight from CF/SD as well Smile

I think the DSK I provided has the Attribute "Read Only". I guess you need to change that.

Note : if you try to extract the files to create another DSK, you get also an unreadable DSK. I think tricks used by BCF need to be neutralized (BASIC files converted into BINARY files, special characters in the names of the files).

Special characters won't be an issue when using putdisk on a real MSX...

BCF was funny with declaring it freeware, but it being a very sturdy piece of software to get playing on an MSX again Running Naked in a Field of Flowers

Indeed ! There's even a network option to play between 2 MSX (press 'U' or 'u' when booting) ! Smile

I've explored deeper this DSK. Besides the already mentioned tricks, there is a mix of real files and sector-based data. I've also discovered that a second hidden FAT reveals 10 hidden files. Probably, for example, the black screen with some options for Music and Hz is hidden in one of these files.

So, it explains why extracting only the apparent files is not a good idea.

Btw, the file available on MRC is definitely not the Trojka game, it's a repetitive dump of a Windows (part of) program.

Additionnal info : the 10 hidden files can't be found by Disk-Manager, but the real or virtual MSX can find them ....

So, probably, the best thing to do first is use COPY¨*.* from A: to B: on MSX.

Guess what ? It works !!! No more invisible files for Disk-Manager and apparently no any sector-based data .. Murdoch

Note that the flickering that was mentioned happens when you run the original Trojka on a turboR. Probably a bug in the original game, as the dsk version that I had doesn't show this.

I received a version of Manuel which is playable from HD/CF/etc... After renaming every file back to their original name including the chr$(201) it is very playable on an MSX.
